What Are Those Noises Coming from Your Car?

There’s no getting around the fact that cars are noisy. But some noises are signs that you need to pay close attention to what is happening. Here’s some information from Cool Green Auto to sort out what you might be hearing.

Wheel Noises

Your car’s wheels make more noise than you might realize, and when there’s a problem, those noises get louder. You might hear whirring noises, for instance, if the wheel bearings are starting to go bad. Other sounds, like clicking or popping sounds, aren’t from the wheels but are instead from the CV joints and you’ll hear those when you turn the car.

Brake Noises

Noises when you’re trying to use your car’s brakes are an indication that you need to pay attention. Some noises, like mild squealing sounds, could be an indication that the wear tabs have been exposed on the brake pad. Other noises, like grinding noises or louder groaning or squealing sounds could be an indication that the problem is in another part of the brakes.

Hissing Under the Hood

Have you ever heard hissing noises from under the hood of your car? If so, that’s an indication that liquid is hitting something hot under the hood. This typically happens when there’s a leak of one type of fluid or another. It’s also common when the car is overheating.

Other Engine Sounds

You could also hear other sounds coming from under the hood, like clicking sounds or popping noises. These can tell you about a variety of different issues, like misfiring or that your car is overdue for an oil change. New noises should always be checked out to make sure all is well.

Transmission Noises

Most of the noises you’re likely to hear from your car are going to come from the front of the car, but transmission noises are likely to come from behind you. That’s because the transmission is in the back of the car, typically. Some of the sounds you might hear from the transmission include grinding sounds, thunking noises, and even some squeals. If you’re hearing noises and experiencing trouble driving the car, the problem is likely a serious one.

Any time you’re hearing new noises, it’s best to get the car inspected to find out what’s going on. Cool Green Auto in Shepherdstown, WV is always happy to help. Just give us a call to set up an appointment and we’ll accurately diagnose the issue for you.
