Four Signs of Tire Problems

Tire issues can ground your car just as easily as engine or battery issues can. Cool Green Auto has some information that can help you to spot tire issues well before you experience a blowout or other problem with your tires.

Excessive Tread Wear

When your tire treads are either wearing unevenly or they’re way worn down, that’s a big sign that your tires need replacing. Keeping track of tread wear is the best way for you to avoid getting caught unaware of a problem. You don’t have to look at the tires constantly but making a habit of checking them periodically helps you to keep tabs on what’s going on.

Sidewall Damage

The tread is important, but it’s only one part of the tire. The sidewall is a key part of the tire as well and if the sidewalls are damaged, they can be weakened enough to cause tire failure. Look for weak spots, which can appear as bulges or blisters in the sidewall. Look also for scuffs and marks that can indicate that the sidewalls have sustained damage that could be a problem.

Handling Problems

It’s also important to pay attention to how the car handles while you’re driving. If there is a lot of vibration or if the car seems to pull in one direction, that can be an indication that the tires are having trouble. Those handling issues are likely to get a lot worse as the tires become more damaged. Handling issues can be a warning that there’s something else going on, but the most obvious first thing to check is the car’s tires.

Air Loss

Your car’s tires are designed to hold air, so if you’re finding it necessary to put air into the tires more often, that’s a sign of trouble. There could be a slow leak because of the valve stem or there could be something lodged in the tire itself creating a leak. While blowouts are a common reason that tires end up flat, they’re not nearly as common as simply losing more air than usual.
